About The Position

The Family Educator is a resource for parents and a facilitator for learning, assisting parents to strengthen their knowledge of child development and community resources. This position serves the Home Based Program in Furnas County and surrounding areas, with an office located in Kearney. The role requires individuals with a passion for helping children and families and connecting them with community resources.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Must have home visitor credentials
Bilingual
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the general public and agency employees
Excellent communication skills
Basic computer skills
Ability to provide leadership and model teamwork
Good interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Travel is required in agency vehicle

Nice To Haves

AA or bachelor's degree in education, Social Work or Human Services preferred
Experience in a childcare environment is preferred

Responsibilities

Plan and develop (with parents) an individualized program for the family, including establishing a caring professional relationship, a climate of mutual trust, and respect for parents.
Recruit eligible families.
Maintain funded enrollment and a waitlist throughout the program year and replace open enrollment slots within 30 days of an opening.
Complete developmental screenings.
Implement office filing system for child/family files to ensure performance standard compliance.
Complete required home visits with families during program year.
Conduct required group socializations.
Maintain Family Partnership Agreements with each family served.
Pursue partnerships with community resources.
Maintain child/family program files.
Provide information to families on community events, parent education classes, etc. and actively refer families to resources available in the community.
Work with parent or guardian to ensure children’s immunizations are up to date.
Ensure all Dental, vision, physical and hearing exams are completed and followed up on within the mandate timeframe.
Work with families to strengthen knowledge of child development, including providing information on how children grow and learn.
Plan and conduct child education activities in conjunction with families that meet the child’s intellectual, physical, emotional and social needs.
Abide by the Standards of Conduct and keep all agency matters confidential.
Model appropriate and professional behavior.
