About The Position

The Route Driver represents Spee Dee Delivery while making deliveries and picking up freight from customers and shippers. The driver works Monday through Friday, beginning at 7:30 AM and continuing until the route is complete. The day off in the four-day work week depends on business needs and is evaluated monthly. Weekend overtime is voluntary and may be available as needed; overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week. Starting pay is $21.00–$26.25 per hour, based on experience and other relevant qualifications, skills, and internal equity. The position is full-time and nonexempt. The role involves operating and inspecting a company vehicle, organizing and handling freight, collecting payments for certain deliveries, checking pickup contents against shipping papers, and communicating problems or discrepancies to management. Drivers must provide professional customer service, work independently, and meet the physical and safety requirements of the role, including passing a DOT physical exam. Freight may include hazardous materials, perishable food, alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals. Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record that meets company standards.
Be able to pass a DOT physical exam.
Be able to bend, lift, twist, and climb stairs while moving freight on and off the company vehicle.
Be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
Be able to work with freight that may include hazardous materials, perishable food, alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
Be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

Ability to operate a manual transmission, or willingness to learn.
Good customer service skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

Deliver and pick up freight from customers and shippers in a timely manner.
Inspect the vehicle and report mechanical problems.
Load the truck in an organized manner to use space effectively and prevent package damage.
Collect payments for certain packages delivered.
Verify the contents of pickups against shipping papers.
Notify management of problems or discrepancies.
Maintain a professional personal appearance and keep the vehicle clean.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
