About The Position

The Route Driver represents Spee Dee Delivery while making freight deliveries and pickups from customers and shippers. The role involves operating and maintaining a company vehicle, loading freight safely and efficiently, collecting payments for certain deliveries, verifying pickup contents against shipping papers, and notifying management about problems or discrepancies. The driver must maintain a professional appearance and keep the vehicle clean. The schedule is Monday through Friday, starting at 7:30 AM and continuing until the route is complete. An additional 10–15 hours of overtime may be expected each week. Voluntary weekend overtime may be available as needed, and overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week. Starting pay is $21.00–$26.25 per hour, depending on experience and other relevant qualifications. This is a full-time, nonexempt position.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record that meets company standards.
Be able to operate a manual transmission or be willing to learn.
Have good customer service skills and the ability to work independently.
Be able to pass a DOT physical exam.
Be able to bend, lift, twist, and climb stairs while moving freight on and off the company vehicle.
Be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
Be able to work with freight that may include hazardous materials, perishable food, alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
Pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Deliver and pick up freight from customers and shippers in a timely manner.
Inspect the vehicle and report mechanical problems.
Load the truck in an organized manner to use space effectively and prevent package damage.
