About The Position

The Route Driver represents Spee Dee Delivery while making freight deliveries and pickups. The role involves delivering and picking up freight from customers and shippers, operating a company vehicle, and providing professional customer service. The position is full-time and nonexempt. The schedule is Monday through Friday, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until the route is complete. An estimated 10–15 hours of overtime may be expected each week; voluntary weekend overtime may be available as needed. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week. Starting pay is $21.00–$26.25 per hour, based on experience and other stated compensation considerations.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record that meets company standards.
Be able to pass a DOT physical exam.
Be able to bend, lift, twist, and climb stairs while moving freight on and off the company vehicle.
Be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
Be able to work with freight that may include hazardous materials, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
Be able to operate a manual transmission or be willing to learn.
Have good customer service skills and be able to work independently.
Pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

Deliver and pick up freight from customers and shippers in a timely manner.
Inspect the vehicle and report mechanical problems.
Load the truck in an organized manner to use space effectively and prevent package damage.
Collect payments for certain delivered packages.
Verify the contents of pickups against shipping papers.
Notify management of problems or discrepancies.
Maintain a professional personal appearance and keep the vehicle clean.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
