About The Position

The position works within Environmental Services within the Public Works Department and operates a variety of equipment. This role is responsible for the collection and transportation of various waste materials, including garbage, recycling, green waste, and storm debris. The operator will also service residents with special needs and perform routine maintenance on equipment.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency.
Valid South Carolina CDL Class B required.

Responsibilities

Operates various vehicles and equipment used in the collection and transportation of garbage, recycling, green waste, and storm debris.
Collects tires, TV's and other e-waste items as needed.
Services roll carts from residents with special needs due to medical/handicap conditions by providing "Door to Truck-Back to Door" service.
Drives and operates a Clamshell Boom Truck in the collecting and/or transporting of bulk waste, brush, tree limbs, and any other solid refuse collected from streets and/or Right-of-ways or City owned property.
Drives and operates a skid-steer and/or rubber tire loader for the purpose of collecting waste or debris form City streets and Right-of-ways.
Drives and operates a Dump Truck (30 cu/yds.), Rear Steer Grapple Loader, and Leaf Collection Vacuum in the collection and/or transporting of green waste (Yard trimmings, brush, tree limbs, grass clippings, and leaves).
Moves, loads, and transports waste, debris, or material on City property to landfill.
Manages the machines or equipment in a safe and secure way.
Performs periodic safety, maintenance or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment.
Performs minor maintenance duties such as checking and adding fluids and greasing as needed.
Maintains vehicle/equipment cleanliness by routine and/or scheduled washing or deep cleaning assignments.
Receives and handles complaints providing assistance, information, and solutions as needed.
Performs related work as assigned.
