The Rope Access Technician Level I is an entry-level technician who performs work-at-height tasks under the direct supervision of a Level III technician and often a Level II technician. The role focuses on safe task execution, learning rope access systems, and supporting work crews. Technicians work while suspended using two-rope systems and follow established rigging and access systems rather than designing them. Assigned work may include cleaning, coating preparation, basic installation or removal, and assisting with inspections. Technicians maintain tool tethering and dropped-object controls, participate in rescues as directed, and follow job safety analyses, permits, and site safety rules. The role requires a strong work ethic, professional conduct with customers and coworkers, and the ability to work demanding and flexible schedules, including long days, short-notice callouts, and extended travel or time on site. The position involves substantial physical activity and work in varied and potentially hazardous environments, including at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme heat or cold. Applicants must meet weight restrictions for safe use of safety harnesses.
