About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Rooms Division Intern to join our team and help to support and oversee the housekeeping and laundry departments, ensuring smooth departmental operations, ensuring the highest levels of cleanliness, guest service and satisfaction. This internship program focuses on Supervisory Training in Back-of-House Operations Management, Facilities Operations & Housekeeping Management, and Guest Interaction and Conflict Resolution. Participants will learn about inventory control, staff scheduling, equipment maintenance, quality control, Union labor laws, cleaning procedures, laundry services, turndown service, guest service standards, communication skills, and conflict resolution techniques. The program involves workshops, training sessions, shadowing, hands-on projects, role-playing, and regular feedback and evaluations.

  • Ability to learn and apply laundry service knowledge
  • Ability to learn and apply turndown service procedures
  • Ability to learn and apply guest service standards, communication skills, guest engagement, problem solving, empathy, anticipation, and product/service knowledge
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and empathy in guest interactions
  • Ability to learn and apply conflict resolution techniques

Responsibilities

  • Support and oversee the housekeeping and laundry departments
  • Ensure smooth departmental operations
  • Ensure the highest levels of cleanliness, guest service and satisfaction
  • Learn how to effectively manage BOH Operations
  • Learn about key aspects of BOH/Housekeeping Management, including inventory control, staff scheduling, equipment maintenance, and quality control
  • Learn how to implement quality control measures
  • Learn how to effectively schedule staff, and the rules of shift coverage in order of seniority and all aspects of scheduling in a Union environment
  • Learn the Union labor laws and collective bargaining agreements as it pertains to this Unionized department
  • Learn about the Labor Union rules and regulations, collective bargaining agreements and how those affect all staffing and scheduling procedures within the department
  • Learn the department’s cleaning procedures, attention to detail, time management, inventory management, problem solving, compliance and safety, and overall teamwork
  • Attend workshops on inventory management and cost control
  • Attend training sessions on staff scheduling and performance management
  • Participate in hands-on projects
  • Receive day-to-day feedback to help improve overall performance and add structure to their learning experience
  • Receive a review after each phase is completed to ensure preparedness for the next phase of training
  • Receive a final evaluation for the overall training period, including overall learning and development
  • Focus on learning the positions to understand standards, management, and leadership to advance supervisory skills
  • Learn a working knowledge of laundry service including different types of fabrics and their care requirements
  • Understand laundry equipment and machinery
  • Receive training on sorting, washing, drying and ironing techniques for various linens, towels and garments
  • Learn awareness of laundry inventory management
  • Learn an understanding of the turndown service procedure and its importance in enhancing guest comfort and satisfaction
  • Receive training on delivering turndown service with attention to detail, consistency, and discretion
  • Participate in cultural experiences including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hannukah and Diwali events, holiday door decorating contests and special Taj events
  • Learn guest service standards, including communication skills, guest engagement, problem solving, empathy and sensitivity, anticipation and proactivity, and product and service knowledge
  • Participate in role-playing exercises to handle various guest requests, complaints, and inquiries
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and empathy in guest interactions
  • Receive an introduction to VIP guest handling and special requests
  • Shadow experienced staff during room inspections and guest interactions
  • Receive regular evaluations and feedback to assess progress, performance and learning
  • Be assigned hands-on training activities related to the importance of guest satisfaction and the level of service expected at this 5-star luxury property
  • Develop strong communication skills
  • Enhance conflict resolution abilities
  • Learn how to improve guest satisfaction levels and how to foster a positive guest experience
  • Practice responding to various guest requests, feedback and complaints through role-playing scenarios
  • Receive class-room type training to learn techniques for de-escalating difficult situations and resolving conflicts with guests and effective communication
  • Participate in ongoing review of guest comment cards and customer interactions
  • Be tested to show understanding and execution of hotel's services and amenities
