About The Position

The Room Service Operator is responsible for answering room service phone calls to obtain menu selections from patients and/or their families. This role involves communicating special patient needs to dietitians, processing physician's diet orders, and updating patient information in the computer system. The operator must adhere to specific diet standards, ensure meal tickets comply with orders and allergies, and maintain nourishment orders. Additionally, the position requires communication between nursing, host/hostess, and kitchen staff to clarify orders and ensure prompt service. The operator is expected to uphold the hospital's service commitment, use courtesy and respect in all interactions, respond positively to requests, utilize proper phone etiquette, maintain a professional image, and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. The role also involves assisting with training other employees and attending scheduled inservices and meetings.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 6 months to 1 year experience in hospitality industry.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently, as related to essential job activities.
  • Computer skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (T.I.D., B.I.D., etc.).
  • Math skills: conversions of oz, cc, ml.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously especially during high patient volumes.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Answers room service phone calls to obtain menu selections from patients and/or patients families.
  • Communicates special patient needs to dietitians.
  • Follows physician’s diet orders for all patients.
  • Updates and maintains accurate patient card files in computer.
  • Adheres to specific standards for diets when entering selections into computer or in modifying and checking menus.
  • Ensure meal tickets are in compliance with diet orders, allergies and proper identifier on the meal tickets.
  • Updates and maintains nourishment orders to ensure diet orders are met.
  • Communicates between nursing, host/hostess, and kitchen staff in order to clarify orders and provide prompt service.

  • Performs additional miscellaneous duties, communicating status to supervisor.
  • Assists with training of other employees.
  • Attends scheduled inservices and meetings.
