About The Position

MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishers, is seeking a Rolling Equipment (Forklift) Operator for their Shipping department in Gordonsville. MPS provides back-office support, warehousing, and fulfillment for Macmillan US, serving as their primary distribution facility for North America. This role is responsible for operating various rolling equipment to manage product movement, including picking, stacking, and relocating items. The operator will ensure accuracy in product counts, check for damage in inbound and outbound shipments, and verify that all paperwork, labeling, and addressing meet specifications. Safety and efficiency in equipment operation are paramount, along with performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondences, and memos.
  • Ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small group situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions, and to deal with standardized structure with only occasional or no variables.
  • Basic knowledge of PCs and keyboarding.
  • Working knowledge of WMS.
  • Must be able to operate a turret truck, order picker, Pacer, forklift, reach truck, walkie/rider, pallet jack.
  • Must be able to work at elevations of 35' feet wearing PPE (safety harness).
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all rolling equipment (forklifts) to move, locate, relocate, pick, and stack products.
  • Accurately count products, ensuring they are free of damage for inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Ensure all paperwork, labeling, and addressing of orders correspond to in-house and customer specifications.
  • Perform safe and efficient operation of all equipment.
  • Operate Pacer, Turret Truck, Order Picker, and Walkie/Rider.
  • Work at elevations of 35 feet wearing Personal Protective Equipment – Safety Harness.
  • Work in other areas and locations as assigned based on workload.
  • Lift and move cartons from conveyor and place in appropriate drop zone (pallet).
  • Place full pallet and partial pallet picks in designated areas.
  • Load outbound trucks.
  • Count to ensure inbound and outbound freight has correct full pallet and case quantities.
  • Prepare product for shipment, ensuring the exact number and type of product is loaded.
  • Ensure receipts/orders are complete and counts are verified.
  • Keep lead or supervisor advised of any shortages, problems, and incorrect labels/markings.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all receipt/shipping documents.
  • Ensure receipt/shipping counts match all documents and bill of ladings.
  • Assist in resolving any discrepancies.
  • Use various devices (scanners and Pick-To-Voice).
  • Ensure all work instructions are followed exactly and update lead or supervisor upon completion.
  • Assist in cycle counting.
  • Move full pallets to shrink wrapping machine using appropriate equipment.
  • Inspect cartons/pallets for damage.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety.
  • Enforce established safety, health, and housekeeping policies and procedures.
  • Conform to all company policies and procedures (Employee Handbook).
  • Comply with all environmental, health, and safety requirements.
