About The Position

Seeking employee to work in our manufacturing facility to set up and operate roll forming machines for 3rd shift. The Roll Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring roll forming machinery to produce metal parts and components in accordance with customer specifications. This role ensures quality standards are met, maintains a safe work environment, and performs basic troubleshooting and adjustments to keep production running efficiently. Employees progressively gain expertise in Roll Machine operations, troubleshooting, and increasing responsibilities and training requirements at each level.

Requirements

  • 0–3 months related experience or training (Trainee level)
  • Completion of Trainee level requirements in Roll Machine Operator training program (Apprentice level)
  • Completion of Apprentice level requirements in Roll Machine Operator training program (Qualified level)
  • Recertification every 2 years (Qualified, Certified, Master levels)
  • Completion of Qualified level requirements in Roll Machine Operator training program (Certified level)
  • Completion of Certified level requirements in Roll Machine Operator training program (Master level)
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • As a Certified Roll Machine Operator and above maintain the following certifications: Material handling equipment inspection, Payoff reel use, Proper loading, band cutting, burr orientation, Feeder operations: types, motor parameters, and theory, Pre-, mid-, and post-notch, TIG weld, induction weld, heat-treated material, Reel types: powered reels, cradles (with/without levelers), aerospace payoff, Coil welding: automatic joint welding, acetylene-oxygen welding.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a rolling machine following established procedures.
  • Load and unload parts from rolling mills.
  • Perform quality checks using written instructions.
  • Make minor roll adjustments and assist with coil changeovers under supervision.
  • Follow safety procedures, including guarding, crane operation, and coil handling.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Process and Procedures Compliance, including: ISO-9002 / D1-9000 quality standards, STEPS program: JIT, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, Basic computer uses for documentation and reporting, Blueprint reading and use of SPC (Statistical Process Control).
  • Use and Understand: Visual Manufacturing / Business Systems, Raw Material, WIP, Finished Goods, and Inventory Tickets, Set-up charts and route sheets, Rework/defective parts procedures, End-of-shift paperwork, Tool storage and staging.
  • Assist with: Raw material placement, Part removal and packing, Manual part cutting, as needed.
  • Operate roll forming machines and follow written/verbal instructions.
  • Adjust pre-pierce, roll, and cut-off tooling.
  • Control machine speed to meet production targets.
  • Produce quality parts using measuring tools, with support from Lead or Inspector.
  • Proficiently run non-pre-notch lines and produce basic shapes.
  • Operate straighteners, perform setup and cut-off, maintain coolant, and clean machine filters.
  • Band and bundle parts effectively.
  • Practice 5-S regularly.
  • Tear down jobs and complete roll setup charts.
  • Perform quality checks per quality plans.
  • Apply working knowledge of SPC.
  • Use the following measuring tools: Operator tools, Protractor, Measuring tape, Micrometer, Calipers, Wizard.
  • Demonstrate all Qualified-level functions independently.
  • Knowledge of side roll stands, mandrels, and corrective actions.
  • Basic understanding of FMEA.
  • Know the Solution Heat Treat process (if applicable).
  • Evaluate tooling and set up die accelerators, auto SPC collectors.
  • Work with production schedules and meet timing requirements.
  • Maintain certifications in: Material handling equipment inspection, Payoff reel use, Proper loading, band cutting, burr orientation, Feeder operations: types, motor parameters, and theory, Pre-, mid-, and post-notch, TIG weld, induction weld, heat-treated material, Reel types: powered reels, cradles (with/without levelers), aerospace payoff, Coil welding: automatic joint welding, acetylene-oxygen welding, Lubrication: correct use, part lubrication, and maintenance (concentration, type, cleanliness).
  • Understand: Quality definitions, Quality policy, Quality plans and travelers.
  • Fully execute all certified-level tasks independently.
  • Advanced SPC application.
  • Expert in blueprint reading.
  • Ability to program feeders.
  • Complete understanding of control plans.
  • Capable of setting up any job in the division.
  • Leadership skills to train apprentices to standards and help other operators through set-ups, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Expertise in problem solve & trouble shoot machinery, tooling, set up & adjustment.
  • Knowledge of computerized controllers.
  • Thorough knowledge of Material characteristics, PPAP & FMEA.
