Our rod and refining plant in El Paso, Texas, is a key contributor to our ranking as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of continuous cast copper rod – a main material used in the manufacturing of wire and cable products. The refinery has the potential to operate at an annual production capacity of about 900 million pounds of copper cathode, which is sufficient to refine all the copper anode we produce at our Miami operations in Arizona. The refinery also produces nickel carbonate, copper telluride and autoclaved slimes material containing gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED, and five (5) years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in a technical mining-related discipline with at least one (1) summer internship experience (or equivalent) in a mining or industrial environment, including supervisory or lead experience.
  • Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam.
  • Candidates must pass all training and/or testing.
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment using mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going drug and alcohol testing, as allowed by applicable laws.

  • Possess operational knowledge of rotating equipment, Pumps, Hydraulics/ Pneumatics Systems, Gearboxes and Boilers Systems
  • Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, you supervise, coordinate, and control the safe and efficient operation of an assigned work unit.
  • Assign, supervise, and review the work of staff.
  • Implement production plans according to approved schedules and participate in the full range of daily operational duties, performing the most difficult tasks as needed.
  • Inspect and evaluate work in progress, identify problem areas, and direct remedial action.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, prepare estimates for staffing, materials, and equipment, and maintain inventories and approve purchases.
  • Manage time, materials, and equipment use reports.
  • Train staff in safety procedures.
  • Maintain safety data sheets.
  • Perform other duties as required.
