About The Position

SRI Robotics seeks a Robotics Software Engineer onsite at our headquarters in Menlo Park, CA, to support development efforts in robotic teleoperation, machine learning, autonomy and controls. SRI's Robotics Group has engineers and scientists from various disciplines, developing novel robotic hardware and software systems. Past and current projects include telerobotic and autonomous surgery, robotic mining, tidal energy harvesting, and autonomous underwater manipulation systems for commercial and government clients.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance
  • RE II - B.S. with 2+ years OR M.S.; RE III – Bachelors with 5+ years OR Masters with 3+ years OR PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics or related field
  • Demonstrated experience/background in C++ and Python
  • Experience with ROS 2 for robotic software development
  • Experience developing software to interface with physical robotic systems
  • Experience integrating robotic sensors such as cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, force/torque sensors, or similar devices
  • Experience with system software (driver/OS level) on Linux and Windows

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent
  • Experience with embedded systems or low-level hardware interfaces
  • Experience supporting research and development programs for government defense, healthcare, or industrial applications
  • Experience contributing to technical proposals, customer demonstrations, and research publications
  • Interest in advancing state-of-the-art robotics, autonomy, AI, and human-robot interaction systems
  • Experience developing robotic control, autonomy, teleoperation, or navigation systems
  • Experience integrating robotic manipulators, mobile robots, or custom robotic platforms
  • Experience with real-time robotic software architectures and distributed systems
  • Experience with computer vision using OpenCV and/or deep learning approaches
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent
  • Experience developing perception systems involving object detection, segmentation, tracking, pose estimation, or sensor fusion
  • Experience collecting, managing, and processing robotics datasets
  • Experience with robotic simulation environments such as Unreal Engine, Isaac Sim/Omniverse, Gazebo, or related platforms
  • Experience developing Unreal Engine applications using C++, Blueprints, and/or OpenXR
  • Experience creating digital twins, synthetic environments, or simulation-based testing workflows
  • Experience with Docker, containerized deployment, and modern software development practices
  • Experience interfacing with external hardware, custom devices, and communication protocols
  • Experience debugging complex multi-sensor and multi-system robotic platforms
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams spanning software, mechanical, electrical, and clinical or operational domains
