Robotics Software Engineer

Mytra•Brisbane, CA

About The Position

Mytra is hiring a Robotics Software Engineer to build software that enables warehouse robots to move and work reliably. The role covers robot behaviors, motion control, state estimation, and integration with hardware and surrounding systems, taking features from prototype through deployment in customer fleets. The engineer will join the Bot Software team and collaborate on-site with senior engineers and colleagues across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines. The position offers ownership of well-scoped parts of the software stack and opportunities to grow.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience developing software for robots or other electromechanical systems.
  • Strong C++ and Python skills on Linux, STM32, or similar platforms running on real hardware.
  • Experience with behavior trees, state machines, or similar approaches.
  • Working knowledge of controls, kinematics, and state estimation, such as Kalman filters.
  • Experience with ROS 2 or another pub/sub framework.
  • Hands-on experience integrating hardware and vendor software, such as motors, encoders, IMUs, LiDAR, and cameras, over CAN, UART, SPI, or similar interfaces.
  • Experience testing in both simulation and on hardware.
  • A methodical, evidence-driven approach to debugging.
  • Clear communication across disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mobile robots or warehouse automation, ideally at fleet scale.
  • Experience with motion planning, trajectory generation, or LiDAR-based collision detection.
  • Docker or Kubernetes experience.
  • Experience with PLCs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test robot behaviors and functions, including task sequencing and recovery from stops and interruptions.
  • Make software robust to real hardware failures, including stale data, bus errors, and sensors that misreport.
  • Implement and tune motion-control features such as drive control, axis moves, and trajectory following.
  • Bring up sensors and actuators, and debug them over CAN/CANopen and messaging systems including NATS and ROS 2.
  • Define and maintain robust interfaces across off-the-shelf and in-house components, including motor drives, PLCs, and internal services.
  • Write hardware abstractions and configuration that allow features to run across robot variants.
  • Build simulation scenarios and automated tests, and maintain them in CI.
  • Debug issues on real robots using logs, telemetry, and bench tools.
  • Own well-scoped parts of the stack in C++ and Python, and contribute to design and code reviews.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and equity grants.
  • Fully subsidized medical coverage for employees and dependents through baseline plans.
  • Dental and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
  • 401(k) plan.
  • Employer-subsidized life insurance.
  • Fully subsidized lunch and snacks at headquarters.
  • Generous paid time off and company-paid holidays, including one week over the winter break.
  • Voluntary pet insurance.
  • Voluntary life insurance, accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity coverage.
  • Fully subsidized tax advisory services and education to help employees understand their equity.
  • Commuter benefits, including up to $150 per month.
  • On-site gym and showers at headquarters.
