About The Position

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable individual to join our team as a Robotics Coach at North Tapps Middle School. This seasonal position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about robotics and education, and who enjoys mentoring middle school students in the exciting world of robotics and technology. The Robotics Coach will be responsible for guiding students in building, programming, and competing with robots, fostering teamwork, problem-solving skills, and a love for STEM.

Requirements

  • Experience in robotics, engineering, marketing or a related field, with a strong understanding of robotics concepts and technology is preferred.
  • Previous coaching or teaching experience, preferably with middle school students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including after-school practices and competition events.
  • Knowledge of programming languages relevant to robotics (e.g., java or similar) is a plus.
  • Background check clearance as required by school district and FIRST policies.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor students in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics competitions, guiding them through the design, construction, and programming of robots as well as prepare students for presentations and outreach.
  • Organize and facilitate regular team meetings and practice sessions, ensuring a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Assist students in troubleshooting and problem-solving during the design and build process.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, creativity, and innovation among students.
  • Collaborate with school staff and parents to promote the robotics program and recruit new participants.
  • Manage equipment and supplies, ensuring that all materials are organized and available for student use.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in robotics and STEM education, incorporating new ideas into the program.
  • Prepare students for competitions by simulating contest conditions and providing constructive feedback on performance.
