About The Position

General Motors is seeking a Robot Application Software Engineer to expand its production autonomous mobile equipment (AME) data platform and developer tooling, while supporting operator-facing AME graphical user interface development as needed. The role builds scalable data portal capabilities, cloud and data-pipeline infrastructure, calibration and configuration tools, robot and software-version tracking, regression reporting, and integrations with OTA and ROC workflows for AMEs used in production manufacturing environments. The Robotics Software team develops full-stack autonomous robotic capabilities, from perception and planning to control and system integration. The engineer will maintain production data infrastructure across live manufacturing plants and collaborate with autonomy, deployment, ROC, OTA, and plant teams to scale capabilities across more than 300 production robots. The role is hybrid, with the selected candidate expected to report to a specific location at least three times a week or at another frequency set by their manager, and requires less than 25% travel. Relocation benefits are available to candidates who qualify under company policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, robotics, engineering, or a related field.
  • At least five years of software engineering experience, including at least two years developing user interfaces or human-robot interfaces for industrial or robotics applications.
  • Advanced proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript and modern web frameworks such as React or Angular, with experience building responsive, data-intensive web interfaces.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux, Docker, and Git.
  • Ability to understand and represent factory operations in engineering discussions and translate technical metrics into actionable insights for technical and nontechnical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Six to ten or more years of hands-on experience developing high-performance web or mobile applications, including at least five years focused on robotics or complex autonomous systems.
  • Experience delivering production software in manufacturing or logistics environments.
  • Advanced proficiency with modern web frameworks such as React or Angular, combined with experience using industrial SCADA platforms such as Ignition, Siemens WinCC, or Rockwell FactoryTalk.
  • Familiarity with 3D visualization technologies and libraries such as Three.js or WebGL.
  • Experience with simulation environments such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance the AME data platform, including data portals, dashboards, robot and software-version tracking, regression reporting, and developer-facing tools.
  • Build scalable cloud-computing and data-pipeline capabilities for robot telemetry, calibration and configuration uploads, automated reporting, and production analytics.
  • Connect robot software release data, operational status, remote-support workflows, and fleet-level diagnostics within the AME data ecosystem to support OTA and ROC integration.
  • Maintain production data infrastructure across live manufacturing plants, including database reliability, upload pipelines, data-quality monitoring, and incident response.
  • Support AME GUI development as needed, including operator-facing dashboards, diagnostic views, fleet-management tools, and data-intensive web interfaces.
  • Partner with autonomy, deployment, ROC, OTA, and plant teams to scale AME software and data capabilities across more than 300 production robots at LOC, Flint, Spring Hill, Kokomo, and future deployment sites.
  • Deliver production-grade software with ownership of versioning, change control, observability, debugging, and on-call support to minimize factory downtime.
  • Champion performance, reliability, accessibility, and maintainability across the software ecosystem.
  • Represent factory operations in engineering reviews by translating technical KPIs into actionable insights for leadership and floor technicians.

Benefits

  • Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
  • The company describes well-being support at work and at home and refers candidates to its Total Rewards resources.
