About The Position

HDR is seeking a Roadway Engineer to serve as a project manager or task leader for urban and rural roadway engineering projects. This role involves coordinating design teams, preparing scopes, budgets, and schedules, and producing contract documents. The engineer will design and review various elements of transportation-related civil engineering projects, including alignments, right-of-way plans, drainage, paving, signing, and traffic control plans, adhering to applicable standards. Responsibilities also include developing construction quantities, preparing estimates, writing reports, coordinating with clients and subconsultants, implementing quality plans, and mentoring junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
  • 2 years of experience in roadway engineering.
  • Experience in roadway, sidewalk, curb ramp, and driveway design and modeling.
  • Experience in Maintenance of Traffic Plans.
  • Experience in cost estimation and quantity analysis.
  • Experience with Federal Highway Administration guidelines.
  • Experience with Virginia Department of Transportation standards and specifications.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation.
  • Proficiency in OpenRoads.
  • Proficiency in BlueBeam REVU.
  • Must have passed Principles and Practice of Engineering examination for PE licensure or already hold Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a project manager or task leader for urban and rural roadway engineering projects of various sizes and complexity.
  • Coordinate the work of the design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project.
  • Prepare or review scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Prepare, design, or produce elements of contract plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation-related civil engineering projects using state, county, and city or other applicable standards.
  • Develop construction quantities and prepare project estimates.
  • Write reports and technical memorandums.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants and clients to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Work closely with the Area Manager, Transportation Business Group Manager, Transportation Program Manager, Section Managers, and multiple Project Managers for project reviews.
  • Implement project quality plans.
  • Review work of and mentor junior engineers and technical staff as needed.
