Roadway Engineer
About The Position
Michael Baker International is seeking a Roadway Engineer to join their growing transportation team in Madison or Milwaukee, WI. This role involves working on impactful projects ranging from local streets and Complete Streets corridors to major highways and interchanges across Wisconsin. The engineer will contribute to complex transportation solutions within a collaborative team environment, working alongside industry-leading professionals. Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Wisconsin, or ability to obtain within four months of hire
- 5-8 years of roadway engineering and design experience
- Experience with WisDOT projects and transportation infrastructure design
- Proficiency in Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads, Geopak, AutoCAD, or similar roadway design software
- Working knowledge of WisDOT standards and local municipality requirements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
Nice To Haves
- Relationships with WisDOT, particularly within the Southwest Region, are a plus
- Experience serving as a task lead and mentoring junior staff is preferred
- Interest in growing into larger project leadership and client-facing responsibilities
- Familiarity with Complete Streets and multimodal transportation design principles is beneficial
Responsibilities
- Design and develop roadway alignments, corridor models, and transportation infrastructure improvements
- Create roadway models using Civil 3D, OpenRoads, Geopak, MicroStation, or related software
- Prepare roadway plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver innovative transportation solutions
- Lead design tasks and contribute to project delivery efforts
- Collaborate with clients and attend project meetings
- Take on increasing levels of responsibility and leadership based on career goals
