About The Position

This is a temporary position for up to 11 months, open only to current City of Victoria employees. The role involves participating in the installation, maintenance, and removal of road markings and signs, as well as graffiti removal. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. The position is part of CUPE Local 50 and pays $36.62 per hour.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform any combination of tasks pertinent to the installation, maintenance, and removal of road features.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, plans and utility information sheets.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle and trailer.
  • Ability to operate various paint application and removal equipment.
  • Ability to use various hand tools such as hammer drill, angle grinder, coring machine, and post straightener.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paint machines, spray guns and other equipment.
  • Ability to load and unload equipment manually or using a forklift.
  • Ability to remove or paint over graffiti from City property.
  • Ability to perform related duties where qualified.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating an aerial lift truck for replacing overhead signs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and removal of road features such as painted road and curb markings, symbols, signs, signposts, pavement markers, and bollards.
  • Identify required maintenance and provide instructions to other staff and contractors.
  • Excavate, mix, and place concrete for signpost installation.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces for paint application and mark out layouts.
  • Place and collect cones and signs in work areas, and set up traffic control.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, plans, and utility information sheets.
  • Make recommendations on materials and equipment.
  • Notify pertinent agencies, utilities, businesses, and residences.
  • Complete records and reports, including safety documentation, work orders, maintenance records, and equipment requisitions.
  • Respond to public inquiries and complaints.
  • Operate a vehicle and trailer for equipment and material transport.
  • Replace overhead signs using an aerial lift truck.
  • Operate paint application and removal equipment, and various hand tools (hammer drill, angle grinder, coring machine, post straightener).
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paint machines, spray guns, and other equipment.
  • Load and unload equipment manually or using a forklift.
