About The Position

The staff nurse uses the nursing process to provide patient care consistent with acceptable standards of the profession and Community Medicine, with a minimum amount of Faxton - St. Luke's Healthcare supervision. The role provides direct and indirect care in an office setting and promotes high-quality care through initiative, flexibility, and responsibility. The nurse determines priorities based on patients’ physical and psychosocial needs and factors affecting patient flow, and communicates changes in patient status to Community Medicine providers.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or nursing program.
• Current New York State Professional Nursing Registration.
• BLS Certification.

Responsibilities

• Collect assessment data on all patients using tools and forms in the EMR.
• Assess and reassess pain, and educate patients and families about pain management.
• Provide age-appropriate care to patients in the community setting.
• Document procedures in the EMR, including medications administered and follow-up assessments.
• Administer medications using the five rights and observe patients for desired and untoward effects.
• Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration.
• Demonstrate knowledge of EKG or cardiac tracing.
• Prioritize patient care according to patient needs and office resources.
• Assist providers with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
• Communicate changes in patient status to Community Medicine providers.
