The RN will work in a Level I trauma center and may be assigned to two nearby facilities based on staffing needs. The traveler receives a schedule and may be notified by text approximately two hours before a shift about the facility or unit assignment. The role includes caring for general emergency department patients and patients requiring stroke, cardiac, and sedation-related care. The nurse may float to medical-surgical floors at the larger facilities and may work on step-down floors with medical-surgical patients. Bed counts and nurse-to-patient ratios vary by facility. Shifts are typically 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. on a cyclical schedule. Travelers are expected to cover facility call-offs and must be flexible to work weekends and holidays. Orientation includes online OSF orientation through HealthStream, orientation and shifts at SFMC, and four hours with a preceptor at each additional facility where the nurse may float. The dress code is regular scrubs and plain tennis shoes; Crocs are not permitted.
