The Clinical Decision Unit cares for patients whose conditions require short-term hospital-based treatments, assessments, reassessments, and periodic monitoring. Staff evaluate whether patients can be discharged or require inpatient admission. Expected stays are 8–48 hours, resulting in frequent admission, transfer, and discharge activity. The unit has a fast-paced environment similar to an emergency room, with diagnostic workups and care needs in a telemetry setting. The nurse assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, educates, and documents patient care according to organizational policies and professional nursing standards. The role requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess information, plan and provide appropriate care, evaluate outcomes, and facilitate safe discharge. The schedule is 36 hours per week, 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m., with rotating weekends and holidays. Staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
