The Triage Nurse is a professional registered nurse with oncology-specific clinical knowledge who provides individualized care and clinical guidance to patients, families, and caregivers. Under general supervision and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines, the nurse triages oncology patient calls about treatment, surgery, and appointments; monitors symptoms; and supports complex, high-risk care to help minimize emergency department visits and inpatient readmissions. The role also provides ongoing education, resources, referrals, and clinical direction; assists physicians and advanced practice providers with patient and family interactions; evaluates diagnostic tests; documents care; and coordinates communication across the multidisciplinary cancer care team. The nurse may provide coverage for the infusion floor or shot room as needed and is expected to follow Florida State Board of Nursing rules and regulations. The position calls for strong organizational, prioritization, communication, telephonic assessment, critical-thinking, and oncology symptom-management skills. The nurse must be able to build collaborative relationships and work autonomously with a virtual team in a remote work environment. FCS describes its culture as centered on patient-first care, accountability, commitment and care, and teamwork.
