About The Position

At CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy, the focus is patient-centered care within a Level I trauma center and academic medical center campus. The facility offers a full range of medical services including trauma, heart and vascular care, emergency services, surgery, maternity, cancer care, and diagnostic imaging, designed to heal the body, mind, and spirit in a comfortable environment. As a Trauma Coordinator RN, the role involves directly supporting Trauma Services, enhancing patient care, elevating trauma expertise, and leading injury prevention efforts aligned with the mission. Key responsibilities include overseeing the Outreach and Injury Prevention Program, acting as the primary liaison for EMS, referral facilities, and regional committees, in accordance with ACS requirements. For Level III centers, the coordinator manages the entire trauma program, including safety and performance improvement, with a focus on quality, community education, and strengthening regional ties. Success in this role requires strong leadership, program management, and communication skills, along with a deep commitment to trauma care improvement, patient safety, and meeting ACS verification standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Of Nursing BSN, or Bachelors Of Nursing BSN - with 5 years, upon hire
  • Minimum of two (2) years clinical experience as a registered nurse in a trauma setting (emergency department or critical care)
  • Registered Nurse: NE

Responsibilities

  • Directly support Trauma Services and enhance patient care

  • For Level III centers, coordinate the entire trauma program, including safety and performance improvement
  • Focus on maintaining quality, community education, and strengthening regional ties
  • Coordinate, implement, and maintain injury prevention program based on local trauma data
  • Evaluate injury prevention program success in meeting objectives
  • Collaborate with other hospital and local community partners to provide injury prevention activities
  • Participate in professional organizations
  • Provide follow-up contact with referring physicians/facilities/EMS as indicated through written and verbal communication
  • Serve as a resource for outlying facility and EMS for trauma related education/prevention and quality improvement; assists with program development as requested
  • Identify possible learning needs of the nursing staff, patients, student, professionals and lay community regarding the trauma population and arranges programs to meet these needs
