About The Position

Logan Health Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to assume the role of Nursing Operations Supervisor. This is a hospital-wide leadership position responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities, serving as a clinical and operational resource for staff. The supervisor acts as the on-site administrator, making time-sensitive decisions, coordinating staffing, supporting bed management and patient flow, and resolving issues impacting patient care and hospital operations. The role also involves evaluating the quality and effectiveness of patient care, clinical decision-making, productivity, staffing, and educational needs.

Requirements

  • Current Montana RN License or a multi-state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ recent acute care (inpatient) nursing experience required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year leadership required (Lead, Charge, or Shift Unit Supervisor qualify).
  • RQI Provider (BLS) within 7 days of hire/transfer or before independent patient care, whichever comes first, required.
  • ALS (ACLS) within 6 months of hire/transfer, required.
  • PALS within 6 months of hire/transfer, required.
  • Possess medical/clinical knowledge and technical skills for respective department(s)/unit(s) required.
  • Must be a self-starter, proactively identifying and following through with opportunities to mentor, coach, support, and assist staff.
  • Promotes excellence through setting high standards and providing high quality outcomes.
  • Ability to act with integrity, kindness and exhibit empathy.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Critical care or ICU experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience as a charge nurse, unit supervisor, or clinical lead is also highly preferred.
  • BSN degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site administrator with authority to make time-sensitive administrative decisions.
  • Coordinate staffing needs, support bed management and patient flow.
  • Resolve issues affecting patient care and hospital operations.
  • Continually evaluate the quality and effectiveness of patient care, clinical decision-making, productivity, staffing, and educational needs.
  • Oversee patient care and administrative activities and care delivery for inpatient units.
  • Maintain a house-wide perspective and make decisions based on the needs of all units.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals for assigned staff and provide regular feedback.
  • Contribute to hiring, corrective action, and termination decisions in partnership with leadership.
  • Conduct orientation and participate in investigations as requested.
  • Communicate with staff to provide immediate feedback to correct deviations.
  • Coordinate the routine flow of scheduled, direct, and emergency patient admissions.
  • Collaborate with unit leaders and staff of all departments to promote efficient shift operations.
  • Assess available staffing resources for each unit, considering census, acuity, absences, and skill level.
  • Call in staff, redeploy, reassign, or downsize staff based on needs evaluation.
  • Provide daily oversight of staff and patient care.
  • Coordinate delivery of patient care in a professional manner in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
  • Make administrative decisions in the absence of the Administrative Team while leading and supervising the operational flow of the campus.
  • Communicate appropriately with the Administrative Team and the Administrator On Call.
  • Coordinate the organizational response during times of high census, collaborating with Administration, unit leadership, and support service departments.
  • Perform within the scope and standards of practice for Registered Professional Nurses.
  • Respond to all on-site emergencies (Code Blue, Stroke, Rapid Response) and act as a clinical resource.
  • Coordinate care for employees and visitors who are ill or injured during non-business hours.
  • Attend post-fall huddles, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide support and education.
  • Promptly and effectively investigate all patient/visitor occurrences and/or complaints and assess impact on clinical status.
  • Provide on-site counseling and mentoring of staff as required.
  • Provide service recovery for complaints/grievances and inform Risk Management and/or the patient advocate.
  • Develop, revise, and ensure compliance with hospital/departmental policies and procedures, standards of care, and professional practice acts.
  • Serve as a role model by providing leadership expertise and acting as a clinical and administrative resource.
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities for assigned staff.
  • Serve as an advocate for professional nursing practice and support the work of the unit-based council.
  • Work in conjunction with unit leadership to advance the practice of nursing and the delivery of care.
  • Document any unusual events that occur during the shift, including teamwork, professionalism, accidents, injuries, safety issues, deviations from patient care, breaches in professionalism, staffing abnormalities, special circumstances, and variances from policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance as scheduled.
