About The Position

The RN Supervisor is responsible for ensuring safe, appropriate, and goal-directed care within each neighborhood, providing support to direct nursing staff. This role requires familiarity with all policies and procedures, the ability to seek guidance when needed, and collaboration with medical doctors in emergent situations. The supervisor will support and promote family-centered care and maintain effective communication with family members. The ideal candidate possesses strong clinical skills, experience in change management, emotional intelligence, and demonstrated leadership in a residential or behavioral health setting. This position involves guiding and supervising nursing staff, performing clinical evaluations, initiating investigations of care issues, and interpreting policies and procedures. The role also includes providing input on employee performance, arranging coverage for shifts, and maintaining accurate records. The RN Supervisor will manage the night medication cabinet, attend management meetings, and round on neighborhoods to gather clinical information, support staff, and address family issues. Effective communication with other Center Departments regarding resident/family needs is essential.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited RN program
B.S. N. (required)
RN in the State of New York
BCLS certificate
Completion of courses mandated for continuation of RN license (e.g., Infection Control course; Child Abuse course.)
Minimum of two years pediatric experience.
Minimum of three years experience in supervisory role.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.

M.S.N. preferred
PALS certification preferred
Experience in pediatric and adolescent chronic and restorative nursing modalities preferred.

Responsibilities

Ensure safe, appropriate, and goal-directed care in each neighborhood.
Provide support and direct nursing staff.
Be familiar with all policies and procedures and seek appropriate guidance.
Collaborate with medical doctors in emergent situations.
Support and promote family-centered care and maintain effective communication with family members.
Perform clinical evaluations for the physician on site and report clinical findings.
Guide and supervise nursing staff in the delivery of nursing care.
Evaluate the quality of total care provided on the evening and night tours of duty.
Provide accurate, objective, and thorough endorsement of resident status to oncoming management and clinical status meetings.
Initiate investigations of care issues and family concerns in a timely and thorough manner, including incident reports, medication errors, and abuse and neglect reporting.
Collaborate with Nurse Manager, supervise and support nursing staff, including performance evaluations, coaching, and counseling.
Interpret policies and procedures for nursing staff and other services.
Provide education and training as needed regarding policy and procedure.
Provide input to Team Leaders on employee performance and intervene as necessary for coaching, counseling, and/or progressive discipline.
Arrange coverage for scheduled shifts if unable to provide coverage as planned.
Assure house coverage is provided when requested.
Maintain accurate and clear records regarding changes in shift assignment.
Use SBAR and other tools to objectively document resident/family concerns.
Manage night medication cabinet and seek solutions to obtain medication for residents if needed.
Attend management meetings, including Operations Meetings and Management Training.
Round on Neighborhoods for the purpose of obtaining clinical information, supporting and educating staff, assisting with family issues, and endorsing complete information to the next shift.
Promote 24x7 accurate, objective clinical and administrative reports.
Follow up on the status of residents transferred to other facilities and report follow-up to oncoming shift, Team Leader, and physician.
Communicate effectively with Center Departments regarding resident/family needs on tour of duty and document communication.
Perform other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.
