About The Position

The RN Supervisor-Psychiatric Mental Health is an experienced Registered Nurse and is responsible for supervising and monitoring the Nursing department(s) on an assigned shift within a freestanding mental health hospital/facility in accordance with nursing standards and practices as well as current Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations. This position ensures the appropriate delivery of direct and indirect patient care via the utilization of the Nursing Process and creates a positive environment for the professional practice of nursing. In addition, this position ensures activities foster continuous quality improvement to enhance patient care outcomes. This position also ensures patient flow throughout the organization. This position provides leadership for multiple hospital/facility departments in the absence of the unit manager, director, or administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
  • Existing incumbents as of 3/1/24 must obtain BSN with 3 years of this date
  • 3 years of acute care charge or supervisory experience required
  • Progressive leadership experience
  • At least one year of experience as part of the 3 required years, in a psychiatric setting preferred
  • Active Registered Nurse license from the State of Connecticut required
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Other certifications may be required by specialty
  • Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider credentialed from the American Heart Associate (AHA) preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • At least one year of experience as part of the 3 required years, in a psychiatric setting preferred
  • Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider credentialed from the American Heart Associate (AHA) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the point person in collaboration with the CLC, for admissions, internal and external patient transfers.
  • Acts as a facilitator and decision maker for placement of all admissions and inter/intra facility transfers.
  • Applies nursing knowledge derived from education and experience as a foundation for clinical triage, placement decisions, and communication.
  • Participates in planning and ensuring adequate staffing to meet the needs of the patients and the department.
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the unit by establishing priorities, eliminating impediments, and resolving problems.
  • Improves the quality and productivity of the department on a continuous basis by establishing priorities, monitoring performance measurements, identifying and recommending improvement opportunities, and eliminating obstacles.
  • Maintains timely and appropriate communication.
  • Escalates issues/concerns via appropriate chain of command.
