This role is responsible for and provides overall supervision of the assigned service area patients in concert with additional leadership and interacts with health system departments, medical staff and patient/families. The position oversees and assists with scheduling nursing staff to specific shifts, taking into account past utilization trends. The job description details the responsibility to implement the nursing process within Sanford and the continuum of care, which includes assessing, diagnosing, establishing a plan with outcome criteria, intervening, evaluating, and documenting human responses to actual or potential health problems. Collaboration with inter-professional colleagues, including providers, is essential for planning, implementing, and evaluating care. The role requires demonstrating competency and practicing within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge, utilizing appropriate age and population-specific standards. Care is provided for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Responsibilities include planning and coordination of care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions, all functioning within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules. The role is expected to demonstrate leadership, serve as a role model, and encourage vision and change projects. Understanding critical components for achieving intended results and assisting in hiring, selection, retaining, and leveraging talent across the unit are key. Collaboration and feedback in measuring employee performance, assisting in coaching, mentoring, and disciplinary situations, and assisting in the training and development of staff are also expected. Practicing positive collaboration and converting difficult interactions into productive ones is important. The role ensures the department meets all regulatory requirements and demonstrates knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques to create and support an environment that meets the organization's quality goals. This includes assisting in data monitoring, reports, and improvements, and assuring the delivery of safe patient care by ensuring supplies and equipment are readily available. Maintaining current certifications and continuing education is necessary. The role may serve and/or chair departmental/organization committees and task forces and may be asked to assist with other projects or work assignments. Duties may include serving as a liaison for accrediting or governing agencies.
