About The Position

The RN apprentice, followed by the RN, performs the functions of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for assigned patients on a unit during a shift, based on the apprentice’s current academic level. The RN apprentice, followed by the RN, is responsible for meeting the Standards of Practice, managing assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment on the unit, and collaborating with all members of the health care team. The RN apprentice is also responsible for following the standards established by the Alabama Board of Nursing for the apprenticeship program.

Requirements

• Successfully completed a fundamentals or equivalent course at an accredited nursing school.
• Attend and be currently enrolled in an accredited nursing school that participates in the Alabama apprenticeship program.
• Remain in good academic standing in the nursing program.
• Hold a current Student Nurse Apprentice Permit issued by the Alabama Board of Nursing before the start date.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for assigned patients during a shift, based on current academic level.
• Meet the Standards of Practice.
• Manage assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment on the unit.
• Collaborate with all members of the health care team.
