About The Position

The RN works on 6NW, a Progressive Care unit where nurses can be trained to care for patients who are more critically ill than those typically cared for on a general Med Surg unit. All RNs on 6NW receive Critical Care training. Advanced practice providers are present on the unit on both day and night shifts and participate in rounds with RNs and physicians. Under the ANA scope of practice, the RN uses the nursing process to provide professional nursing care, incorporating patient- and family-centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality care under the direction of the Nurse Leader and in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures. The role recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with patients and families, incorporates their input and goals into care planning, develops teaching strategies, and documents education and learning in the health record. The position is part-time, scheduled for 24 hours per week, with day hours of 7:00 am–7:30 pm on variable days and every other weekend. It is based at Royal Oak Hospital, a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations.
