The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care in the Progressive Care Unit under the ANA scope of practice and the direction of the Nurse Leader. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supports discharge while incorporating patient- and family-centered care principles. The RN partners with patients and families, includes their input and goals in care planning, develops teaching strategies, and documents education and learning in the health record. Care is provided according to Corewell Health policies and procedures, with attention to how nursing care and patient/family partnerships affect outcomes. The 67-bed, high-acuity Progressive Care Unit cares for a diverse adult population requiring elevated monitoring and nursing expertise. The collaborative team includes Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and Telemetry Technicians. Patient populations and clinical experiences include adult medicine, surgical, cardiac, neurology, and GI patients; cardiac drips requiring titration; insulin drips with hourly glucose monitoring; CIWA management; ICDs, permanent pacemakers, and Life Vests; ventilator and tracheostomy patients; hemodynamically stable BiPAP patients; neurologic patients requiring NIHSS assessments and every-two-hour neuro checks; post-pericardial window patients, chest tubes, and PleurX catheters; CAPD patients with cardiac conditions requiring PCU-level care; and pregnant patients requiring PCU-level monitoring.
