Under the direct supervision of the Physician or Operations/Practice Manager, this role assists in providing nursing care to office patients. The primary focus is triaging and evaluating patients, mainly via telephone calls and some walk-in patients. Responsibilities include obtaining major complaints and brief medical history, completing chart documentation, and informing the physician or nurse practitioner of patient symptoms or for guidance. The role also involves refilling medication orders, assisting other departments, responding to Codes, and answering general health questions. Triage of telephone calls with complete follow-through is essential. The position requires maintaining, ordering, and stocking pharmaceuticals, obtaining and transmitting reports from outside agencies, and maintaining patient rights and confidentiality. The nurse will serve as an advocate, provide a safe environment, participate in quality monitoring, assess learning needs, and act as a resource. Participation in nursing and staff meetings is expected. Additional duties may include secretarial/clerical tasks such as filing, copying medical records, answering phones, taking messages, and faxing. The role requires working cooperatively with co-workers and communicating politely with all personnel.
