Under the direct supervision of the Physician or Operations/Practice Manager, this role assists in providing nursing care to office patients. The primary focus is triaging and evaluating patients, mainly via telephone calls and some walk-in patients. This includes obtaining major complaints and brief medical histories when necessary, and completing chart documentation. The role involves informing the physician or nurse practitioner of patient symptoms and seeking guidance when needed. Responsibilities also include obtaining and refilling patient medication regimens, assisting other departments, responding to medical emergencies within the practice, and answering general health questions. Maintaining and stocking pharmaceuticals, obtaining and transmitting reports from outside agencies, and ensuring patient rights and confidentiality are also key aspects of this position. The role requires participation in quality improvement initiatives, assessing personal learning needs, and contributing to nursing and staff meetings. Additionally, assistance with secretarial/clerical duties such as filing, copying records, answering phones, taking messages, and faxing may be required. The nurse will perform other work-related duties as requested and work cooperatively with colleagues and patients.
