To provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families. This role involves clinical advancement, utilizing systematic planning, appropriate methods, and timely exchange of information with the multidisciplinary team and patient/family to coordinate care. The position requires the ability to focus on and manage multiple patient needs and aspects of care, actively communicating with the care team to plan patient care and utilizing available resources to problem-solve and determine the most effective approach to action. Clinical judgment and decision-making are crucial, involving the nursing process and a critical thinking approach to provide patient care that incorporates the mind, body, and spirit; is individualized, goal-directed, and consistent with current standards of safety. The role includes identifying actual/potential problems for which the patient is at risk, continuously evaluating interventions and care, and adjusting the plan as patient and family needs change. It also involves identifying the need for referrals, collaborating with the patient, family, and other team members to develop a comprehensive plan of care, and prioritizing demand for resources. The RN will act as a preceptor/teacher, guiding other nurses, and making appropriate referrals. They will implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with complex needs, demonstrating accountability for achieving patient outcomes and the ability to quickly recognize a patient diagnosis. Documentation must be comprehensive, concise, and reflect a critical thinking/problem-oriented approach. Clinical leadership involves delegating/assigning and communicating expectations for care delivery processes, assessing the appropriateness of physician orders, and helping coworkers improve performance. Establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family, anticipating problems, and adapting nursing interventions to meet diverse needs are key. The RN will serve as a patient advocate, provide age-appropriate patient education, and coordinate transfer and discharge planning. The role requires independent performance of the nursing process, safe nursing care for patients in complex situations, and competency in unit skills. Coordination of patient care administered by other members of the care team is expected, with the potential to assume responsibility as a relief charge nurse and assist with preceptorship/professional development. Safe use of common equipment and medications is required, along with recognizing inconsistencies in patient care and managing potential complications. Consistent organization, prioritization of workload, and confident management of emergency situations are essential. Participation in quality improvement initiatives, compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and demonstration of professional behavior are expected. The RN will utilize a variety of teaching/coaching strategies, promote clinical effectiveness, efficient use of resources, and quality care, and transfer knowledge and mentor others to improve clinical practice. Complex problem-solving and critical thinking skills are necessary.
