About The Position

The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, directs, implements, and assists to provide quality patient care for assigned patients. This role involves modifying nursing care, medication administration, and discharge planning. The nurse will provide education tailored to individual patient needs, monitor patient conditions, record and report symptoms, and intervene when necessary. Responsibilities include performing complete data collection, collaborating with patients on treatment plans, and encouraging family participation. Accurate documentation in medical records, use of multi-disciplinary team strategies, and maintaining accurate reports are essential. The role also requires anticipating and responding to changes in patient condition or equipment malfunctions, modifying treatment plans, and collaborating with the patient care team. Coordination of patient care and transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations is also part of the role, along with performing additional department-specific functions.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma from an Accredited Diploma Program or Associate or higher Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state within 90 days.
  • 4881 RN I: 6 months -1.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4882 RN II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4883 RN III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4884 RN IV: 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Current JPS recognized BLS certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Completion of unit specific competency based orientation program within 90 days.
  • Successful completion of EKG and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire, if working on a monitored unit and maintained throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, assesses, directs, implements and provides quality patient care for assigned patients to include modifying nursing care, medication administration and discharge planning.
  • Provides education directed towards individualized patient needs utilizing the nursing process in coordination with policies and procedures.
  • Monitors changes in patient condition to include recording and reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs and intervening when appropriate.
  • Performs complete data collection from patient presenting complaints and pertinent history.
  • Collaborates with patients to identify treatment plan goals, and discharges patients as appropriate with a written discharge plan.
  • Encourages family participation as appropriate for age and situation.
  • Delivers nursing care to patients including assessment and planning of education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment, pain management, and discharge utilizing the nursing process.
  • Documents accurately in medical records, on forms, and in the computer entering appropriate orders, patient charges, and or other information, meeting standards, policy, and procedures.
  • Delivers quality care by using multi-disciplinary team strategies and minimizing the risk of infection, harm, or injury.
  • Maintains accurate detailed reports and records and directs care with regard to age and developmental stage, presenting complaint, and pertinent history.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Anticipates deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action.
  • Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
  • Collaborates with patient care team members on patient care plan, incorporating consistent use of hand-off communication.
  • Conducts and coordinates patient care and patient transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations, as applicable.
  • Performs additional department-specific functions as outlined in department procedures.
