About The Position

The RN-Inpatient provides nursing care and treatment to patients in the NICU at Children's of Mississippi. The role assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care, coordinates services and clinical-area operations, maintains patient records, and supports the patient admissions process. The nurse counsels patients and family members about treatment and patient conditions and coordinates with case managers, home health nurses, utilization review, and other services. The position may require call at the department’s discretion. It is a part-time, PRN, hourly position.

Requirements

Valid RN license.
Knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills.
Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools, and programs.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient treatments and nursing interventions.
Educate patients and, when appropriate, family members about the patient’s condition, diet, medication or treatment side effects, and the importance of following medication schedules.
Ensure patient safety.
Coordinate referrals to services within and outside the immediate area or unit.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Function as a preceptor in accordance with UMMC guidelines.
Report patient issues or concerns to a supervisor as appropriate.
Serve on at least one nursing council, hospital or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or the work area.
Demonstrate core standards of exceptional customer service.
Coordinate clinical-area operations, including patient scheduling and the admissions process.
Coordinate patient services and care, including liaison with case managers, home health nurses, and utilization review.
