Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This is a 12-hour rotating shift position with scheduled weekly hours of 36. The role involves working in a 20-bed unit serving adult patients with psychiatric illness. Patients are cared for by an interdisciplinary team consisting of the psychiatrist, nursing, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation and behavioral health technicians and aides. Patients in this unit are treated with group therapy as well as individual therapy and assessments. This unit provides acute care for the patient and facilitates treatment ongoing in the community. This unit also includes a partial hospitalization program. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients. The RN collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. The role requires demonstrating competency and practicing within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizing appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. The RN cares for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move along the continuum of care. The role is responsible for the planning and coordination of care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions. The RN functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
