About The Position

Apalachee Center, Inc. is dedicated to helping individuals and families in North Florida recover from emotional, psychiatric, and substance abuse crises, providing comprehensive behavioral health services across 8 counties (Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla Counties). The Inpatient Educator (RN) manages and coordinates unit training for both newly hired and seasoned Inpatient staff. This role assists the Nurse Manager in the supervision of Mental Health Assistants (MHAs), Mental Health Assistants – II (MHA-IIs), Milieu Therapists (MTs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Registered Nurses (RNs). The Inpatient Educator also coordinates unit functioning with Inpatient Administration and supervises emergency events as needed.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in accordance with Florida Statute 464.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Maintain authorization as an approved Center vehicle driver.
  • Must maintain current CPR, CPI and First Aid certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Professional clinical experience in a psychiatric/community mental health setting.
  • Supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates unit training for new staff and re-training of seasoned staff.
  • Makes daily rounds on all units to observe staff and address training needs.
  • Monitors Inpatient units to ensure that clients receive quality care as per Agency, State and Federal guidelines.
  • Assists with completion of performance evaluations; follows through with disciplinary action, including writing communication notes, written supervisory notes, etc.
  • Identifies and follows up on needed corrective actions as assigned Supervisor or designee.
  • Ensures MHA staff assignment sheets are completed for all shifts and follows up with unit nursing staff and/or Nurse Managers when needed.
  • Communicates daily with unit nursing staff and Nurse Managers about staffing and unit management issues.
  • Communicates changes in policies and procedures to staff as directed by Supervisor or designee.
