Blake 11 is a 24 bed, locked, inpatient psychiatric unit. The inpatient service provides diagnostic evaluations, brief inpatient treatment, and care to an adult population of patients with primary psychiatric disorders. Also, as a tertiary health care provider, the service accepts referrals for diagnostically complex or treatment resistant patients. Patients with concomitant medical and neurological disorders and a primary psychiatric disorder are also treated. With primary nursing as our model of care delivery, staff nurses provide supportive and empathic emotional care, behavioral management, medication management, and education to our patients. Our mission is abatement of acute symptoms, through evaluation and appropriate disposition, generally after a 10-day stay. The nursing service has a strong culture of professionalism and evidence-based practice. Many nurses are ANCC board certified as Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurses and Certified Addictions Registered Nurses. Professional growth opportunities are widely available.
