About The Position

This is a 90% FTE position with an 8/12 hour evening/night shift, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, including weekend and holiday rotation, at University Hospital in Madison, WI. The role involves working in a brand-new intermediate care unit opening in 2027, focusing on delivering remarkable care through high standards of patient care and exceptional communication. This state-of-the-art 16-bed hospitalist intermediate care unit specializes in providing comprehensive, high-acuity nursing care to adults with a wide variety of medical diagnoses, complex comorbidities, or hemodynamic instability requiring increased support. This unit bridges the gap between intensive and general care, serving patients who may step down from ICUs or require higher levels of care. Patient populations include those with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, or severe multi-organ dysfunction. The unit is committed to providing patients and families with the highest level of evidence-based care and fosters interdisciplinary communication and collaboration for smooth, safe transitions between levels of care. Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification Upon Hire
  • ACLS within 6 months
  • Six (6) months nursing experience or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.
  • Two (2) years of nursing experience required for eICU.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, high-acuity nursing care to adult patients with a wide variety of medical diagnoses, complex comorbidities, or hemodynamic instability requiring increased support.
  • Care for patient populations including those with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, or severe multi-organ dysfunction.
  • Facilitate smooth, safe transitions between levels of care, particularly for patients stepping down from critical care units.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
  • Utilize critical thinking and evidence-based problem-solving.
