About The Position

This is a 90% FTE position with an 8/12 hour day/evening shift, from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm, including weekend and holiday rotation. The role is located at University Hospital in Madison, WI. The compensation includes an evening and night shift differential, as well as a weekend differential. This position offers the opportunity to work at the #1 hospital in Wisconsin and be part of a brand-new intermediate care unit opening in 2027. The unit specializes in providing high-acuity nursing care to adults with diverse medical diagnoses, complex comorbidities, or hemodynamic instability requiring increased support. This new unit bridges the gap between intensive and general care, serving patients stepping down from ICUs or those needing higher levels of care. Patient populations include those with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, or severe multi-organ dysfunction. The unit is committed to evidence-based care and fosters interdisciplinary communication and collaboration for smooth patient transitions. Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification Upon Hire
  • ACLS within 6 months
  • Six (6) months nursing experience or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.
  • Two (2) years of nursing experience (for eICU)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Inpatient Units and Central Float (Adult & Pediatric), Venous Access Team (VAT), Radiology, Hemodialysis, Cardiovascular Laboratory experience
  • Relevant RN Experience
  • Relevant certification

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive, high-acuity nursing care to adults with a wide variety of medical diagnoses, complex comorbidities, or hemodynamic instability requiring increased support.
  • Provide care to patients with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, or severe multi-organ dysfunction.
  • Facilitate smooth and safe transitions between levels of care, particularly for patients stepping down from critical care units.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
