Requirements

Associate Degree in Nursing required
Current Michigan Registered Nurse License
Current BLS Certification
8 – 10 years’ RN experience required, preferably in an ambulatory care setting
Knowledge of nursing theory and practice
Knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, JACHO and HIPPA regulations
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Good written and verbal communication skills
Good analytical and judgment skills
Ability to use computer software programs and systems
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks and manage time
Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
Knowledge of Public Health Code and Michigan Nurse Practice Act preferred
Med-Surg background, preferably in Oncology, Neurology, Rheumatology or prior experience in an infusion clinic.

Responsibilities

Perform and document patients’ vital signs, height, weight, and allergies in the electronic medical record, alerting physicians to any abnormalities.
Instruct or assist patients in specimen collection, tests, and procedures.
Prepare patients for physical examinations.
Assist physicians with or coordinate patient treatment, procedures, and surgeries.
Perform venipunctures, IV therapies, and injections.
Dispense medications as prescribed by physicians and document orders.
Document complete and accurate summaries of care given, including procedures and observations.
Schedule/coordinate testing, treatments, x-rays, consultations, and referrals.
Review laboratory/test results, recognize abnormal results, and notify physicians.
Contact patients with test/procedure results.
Review physicians’ discharge instructions and follow-up appointments with patients.
Call in prescriptions/refills to pharmacies as directed by Physicians.
Educate and counsel patients and family members on health conditions, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
Check diagnostic laboratory forms and physicians’ orders for accuracy and completeness.
Maintain clinical areas, ensuring necessary medical equipment, supplies, and pharmaceuticals are stocked.
Answer telephones, direct/triage patient calls, take messages, and relay information.
Establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external personnel.
