About The Position

This position involves providing direct patient care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The role requires utilizing the nursing process, maintaining accurate patient records, and assessing patients comprehensively. The nurse will also be responsible for developing and implementing care plans, potentially serving as a charge nurse, and acting as a resource for staff. Participation in quality improvement initiatives, ongoing professional development, and representing the hospital positively in the community are also key aspects of the role. This is a Registered Nurse position in the ICU, with specific job codes for regular and per diem status.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Graduate of a School of Nursing
  • (RN) - Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • (BLS) - Current Basic Life Support certification
  • (ACLS) – Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
  • CCHC Pharmacology Exam (successfully passed)
  • CCHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam (successfully passed)
  • One to two years recent critical care experience required
  • (De-escalation) - Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 4 months, offered within)

Nice To Haves

  • (Preferred) – A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • (Preferred) CCRN Certification

Responsibilities

  • Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans. Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
  • Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
  • Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care. Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Assesses personal learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served. Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor.
