About The Position

The RN - ICU Float Pool supports the adult intensive care units at Mass General Hospital, working 36 hours per week. The role is accountable for interpreting medical care plans, assessing patients and making clinical decisions about nursing care, ensuring that care is provided safely and competently, providing individualized nursing care, and evaluating care for groups of patients. This position involves direct patient care.

Requirements

Associate’s degree in nursing required; a bachelor’s degree in nursing is preferred.
Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required.
Clinical nursing experience of 0–1 year required.
Experience cannot be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing and patient care.
Knowledge of care requirements for the age groups served.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Excellent verbal and communication skills.
Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
Administer medications and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
Record patients’ medical information and vital signs.
Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients’ conditions.
Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
Modify patient treatment plans in response to patients’ conditions and responses.
Interpret medical care plans, assess patients, make clinical decisions regarding nursing care, provide individualized care, and evaluate nursing care.
