About The Position

To assess, develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care and treatment for patients in an assigned clinical area. The role coordinates clinical-area operations, including patient scheduling, maintaining patient records, and managing patient admissions. It also involves counseling patients and family members about patient conditions and treatment, serving as a liaison among case managers, home health nurses, utilization review, and others, and coordinating patient services and care. Duties are performed in accordance with the medical center's purpose.

Requirements

Valid RN license.
Knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills.
Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools, and programs.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient treatments and interventions.
Educate patients and, where appropriate, family members about the patient's condition and status, diet, medication or treatment side effects, and the importance of medication compliance.
Ensure patient safety.
Coordinate referrals to services within and outside the immediate area or unit.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Function as a preceptor in accordance with UMMC guidelines.
Report patient issues or concerns to a supervisor as appropriate.
Serve on at least one nursing council, hospital or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or the work area.
Demonstrate core standards of exceptional customer service.
Coordinate clinical-area operations, including patient scheduling and admissions, and coordinate patient services and care.
Counsel patients and family members on treatment and patient conditions, and act as a liaison with case managers, home health nurses, utilization review, and others.
