As an RN in the Pediatric Operating Room, you will deliver professional nursing care to patients 6-months old and up, undergoing surgical and other invasive procedures. Most cases have a high turnaround time and are ENT and GI-related. This role requires specialized clinical expertise to support a wide range of pediatric conditions, working closely with a highly skilled team dedicated to safe, high-quality surgical care in the operative setting. This caregiver must also be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, as you will circulate, scrub and float. Our caregivers are specially trained and certified to meet the unique needs of pediatric patients, providing compassionate, family-centered care throughout the surgical experience. Caregivers who do not have any previous OR experience will complete a full OR orientation to further their knowledge in this area. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 3:30PM or 9:00AM – 5:30PM, with on-call requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • In areas performing moderate sedation procedures, must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within six months of employment
  • One year of recent experience as an RN
  • OR Licensed RN with at least two years of LPN experience within the same Cleveland Clinic procedural department may substitute for required RN experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services to hospitalized patients in various healthcare settings.
  • Assess patients, complete nursing assessments, document findings in patient records and notify physicians of abnormal findings.
  • Perform telephone triage and call rotations.
  • Perform nursing procedures and administer treatments and medications.
  • Establish care plans in collaboration with patients, families and the health care team.
  • Coordinate ongoing care, identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning.
  • Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care.
  • Educate patients and families.
  • Participate in education, research and performance improvement activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of department-specific education for patients and colleagues.
  • Maintain core competency in nursing (CPR, skills labs).
  • Cover other nursing roles in the department.
