The Float RN provides essential nursing support across the Pre-Operative, Operating Room (OR), and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) departments. This role is crucial for maintaining patient flow, ensuring patient safety, and contributing to the efficient daily operations of these critical areas. The Float RN will assess, develop, and implement comprehensive nursing care plans for pre-operative patients, meticulously record and report patient conditions, and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians. Responsibilities extend to preparing the OR, assisting the surgical team, performing surgical time-outs, and ensuring sterile environments. Effective communication with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and team members is vital, as is accurate documentation of intraoperative care. The role also involves monitoring patient safety, managing specimens, assisting with room turnover, and adhering to all infection control, safety, and regulatory standards. The Float RN will verify surgical consents, ensure all necessary pre-operative workup is complete, and report any abnormal findings. They will also obtain and label personal belongings, assist patients with attire, administer pre-operative sedation, and function independently in emergency situations, making sound, quick decisions. Maintaining patient and employee privacy, providing psychological support, and fostering positive relationships with medical departments and vendors are key aspects of this position. Continuous learning through CEUs and facility in-services, assisting with new employee orientation, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment are also expected. The role requires the ability to report and label malfunctioning equipment and work within established safety guidelines.
