About The Position

Assures appropriate traffic control in the operating room. Initiates the incident reporting mechanisms when indicated. Other duties as assigned. Utilizes appropriate channels of communication when initiating change, reporting information or concerns. Promotes and contributes positively to intra and interdepartmental relations. Assists with the orientation of new employees and assumes unit responsibility when delegated by the nursing manager or director. Performs specialized nursing care in all phases of the peri-operative role. Assists with pre-and postoperative assessment of the patient and updates preference cards as needed. Performs surgical counts per policy and prepares operating room setup. Recognizes abnormal diagnostic laboratory data, blood gas values, radiologic data, and knows the implied significance of each. Recognizes emergency situations and reacts efficiently and appropriately. Assures patients' right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

  • Computer proficiency required
  • Perioperative Nursing required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills required.
  • At least two (2) years circulating and/or scrub experience required in a multi-specialty setting.
  • Previous experience and working knowledge of computerized documentation required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time required.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate clear communication skills and strong anticipatory skills required.
  • Manual dexterity, lifting, pulling, pushing of equipment, heavy instrument sets, and patients required.
  • Basic RN Nursing skills required.
  • Circulating skills required.
  • Scrub skills required.
  • Fluent in English language, speaking, reading, writing required.
  • Ability to prepare surgical suites with appropriate instruments, resources, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards required.
  • Knowledge of instruments, supplies, and equipment utilized for surgical procedures required.
  • Understanding of the procedures being performed and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon required.
  • Strong physician/surgeon relationship skills and team mentality required.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory, compliance, and accreditation standards and requirements required.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals required.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements required.
  • Cognitive, psychomotor, and affective behaviors that demonstrate accountability and responsibility for identifying and meeting the needs of peri-operative patients required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) [Required]
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]
  • 1+ of general nursing experience in an acute care setting. [Preferred]
  • 2+ of nursing experience in the required specialty [Preferred]
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) [Preferred]
  • Certified Registered Nurse First Assist (CRNFA) [Preferred]
