The RN will work in the Emergency Room/Emergency Department, which has 44 beds, 3 trauma bays, and 12 psychiatric beds, including a fast track and separate triage area. The department treats an average of 145–150 patients per day. ER holds and other ER patients are intermixed, and the nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:8–10. The department has ED physicians and mid-level providers, a charge nurse who takes an assignment, and PCAs. Respiratory therapy performs ABGs. There are no monitor technicians, so RNs must be competent to read cardiac strips. X-ray and CT are available in the ER. RNs and PCAs draw labs unless the patient is admitted. This is a 12-hour night-shift position. Weekend and holiday work is required; there is no call or standby requirement and no floating requirement. Travelers may be assigned to triage if they have previous triage experience. The dress code is navy blue scrubs, and unit-specific orientation is two days.
