About The Position
This role involves utilizing the nursing process to care for patients, maintaining accurate patient records, and documenting assessments including physical, psychological, and social dimensions, as well as discharge plans. The position requires proficiency in the charge nurse role, computerized nursing informatics, and serving as a resource person for patient care, orientation, and staff teaching. Responsibilities include participating in unit staff meetings, mandatory programs, and obtaining PCAC credit. The nurse will also participate in identifying aspects of care, monitoring quality, and adhering to safety policies. Professional development is emphasized, with requirements for updating knowledge and participating in nursing committees. The role also involves representing the hospital positively in the community and providing excellent service to all individuals. Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor are also part of the role.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Basic Life Support and ACLS Certification required and must maintain certifications.
- Successful passage of CCH’s Pharmacology exam.
- Successful passage of Basic Arrhythmia exam.
- Must read, write and communicate in English.
- Completion of an approved de-escalation Certification Course within 30 days from hire (course offered within).
- Recent (within last 3 years) Emergency Center RN experience required.
- Demonstrated skills in I.V. administration, IV starts, ventilator care, and telemetry monitoring required.
Nice To Haves
- TNCC, ENPC and PALS certifications preferred.
Responsibilities
- Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
- Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans.
- Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
- Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
- Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
- Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
- Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year, attends mandatory programs and obtains three hours of Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC) credit per year.
- Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care.
- Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
- Assesses personal learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities.
- Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served.
- Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
- Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
- Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
- Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.
