About The Position

This role involves providing direct patient care within the Emergency Room setting. The Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. This position requires the ability to function effectively in high-stress situations, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. The RN will care for patients of all populations and must possess or be willing to acquire specialized knowledge and skills for immediate and effective nursing care in emergency situations.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved School of Nursing
• Registered Nurse license currently licensed by the State of Indiana
• CPR certification
• ACLS/PALS prior to completion of orientation
• TNCC within two years
• Possesses general knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias and the therapeutic modalities for intervention of each specific arrhythmia
• Shows an overall understanding of Emergency Room Nursing
• Possesses or is willing to acquire the special knowledge and skills required to implement safe, immediate and effective nursing care to each Emergency Room patient
• Functions well in stressful and true emergency situations
• Demonstrates understanding and tact in dealing with patients and visitors
• Cooperates with law enforcement agencies, coroners, physicians, and all other hospital staff
• Identifies and assesses problems and situations accurately while exercising good judgment.
• Establishes effective working relationships with physicians and other professional staff

• One to two years’ professional experience in Emergency Room Nursing preferred

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care within the Emergency Room setting.
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care.

• Completes head-to-toe assessments.
• Understands and follows care plans for all patient populations.
• Collaborates with ER physicians and other professional staff.
• Administers medications using the '5 Rights' and understands IV pump use, medication calculations, critical drips, and pyxis.
• Completes documentation, including downtime procedures, medication passes, waste, hourly rounding, vital signs, and hand-offs.
• Participates in unit responsibilities such as inventory control, performance improvement projects, and department-specific education.
• Provides psych/social support and patient education.
• Assists with follow-up instruction and post-discharge follow-up phone calls.
• Cooperates with law enforcement agencies, coroners, physicians, and all other hospital staff.
• Identifies and assesses problems and situations accurately while exercising good judgment.
• Performs daily checks (temperature checks, crash carts, etc.).
